Why Does My Dog Need Vaccinations?

Vaccinations for pets are just like vaccinations for people! The process activates our immune system which will build up antibodies to help fight off common illness if we ever come in contact with it again.

What Vaccinations Are Required?

The health and safety of each of our furry guests is very important to us. All dogs must have current vaccinations for the following:

  • Rabies
    • Required for ALL dogs over the age of 6 months; Any dog unvaccinated for rabies will not be allowed to enter our facility. Under Indiana state law, dogs must be vaccinated against the rabies virus. In the event of no or expired Rabies vaccination, the owner will take the pet for updated vaccines or give permission to Paws & Play for a trip charge of $29.95 and cost of vet visit to take the pet to receive updated vaccinations in order to enter the facility. Vaccinations may be given in 1- or 3-year dosages. Paws & Play will accept either dosage.
  • Distemper/Parvo Virus
    • Required for all dogs; any dog unvaccinated will need to receive the vaccine before arriving to the facility. The owner can take the pet for updated vaccines or give permission to Paws & Play for a trip charge of $29.95 and cost of vet visit to take the pet to receive updated vaccinations. Vaccinations may be given in 1- or 3-year dosages. Paws & Play will accept either dosage. After the update, the 3 day wait period will be in affect; another enrichment activity will be offered.
  • Bordetella
    • Required for all dogs; any dog unvaccinated will need to receive the vaccine before arriving to the facility. The owner can take the pet for updated vaccines or give permission to Paws & Play for a trip charge of $29.95 and cost of vet visit to take the pet to receive updated vaccinations. Once updated, there will be a 3-day inoculation period where the dog will not be fully protected in a social setting. After the update, the 3 day wait period will be in affect; another enrichment activity will be offered. Vaccines may be given in 6 month or 1-year dosages. Paws & Play will accept either dosage.
  • Canine Influenza
    • Required for all dogs participating in social activities, such as group play and group classes; dogs without a Canine Influenza vaccine may stay, play with staff or housemates, participate in one on one activities such as leash walks and receive Spa services!

When a dog is given its first dose of the Canine Influenza Vaccine, there is a 7 day wait period to allow the vaccine to become fully active before participating in social activities. If a dog is receiving a booster, there is no wait period to participate for social activities.

The owner can take the pet for updated vaccines or give permission to Paws & Play for a trip charge of $29.95 and cost of vet visit to take the pet to receive updated vaccinations if they wish to continue social activities. After the update, the 7-day wait period will be in affect; another enrichment activity will be offered.

A waiver may be signed by a veterinarian in the event the owner does not wish to vaccinate for canine influenza, or the vet recommends against the vaccine; if a waiver is signed, that dog may participate in social activities.
  • Titers
    • Paws & Play does recognize the use of titers when given proper paperwork from a pet’s veterinarian.

"Serum titers are blood tests that measure whether or not you are immune to a given disease(s). More specifically a quantitative serum titer is a titer with a numerical value indicating your actual degree of immunity to a disease(s)."

Do You Have Breed or Age Restrictions?

We accept all breeds and ages. Puppies are welcome to our resort as early as they receive their first vaccinations. Requirements for puppy vaccinations include Bordetella and the second round of Distemper and Canine Influenza. We do not require the Rabies vaccination until 6 months of age. Our facility was designed to meet the needs of all sizes, ages, and personalities! We LOVE them all.

What If My Dog is Under the Weather While at Paws & Play?

If your dog is showing signs of feeling under the weather, we will inform you immediately. We treat your pet like it is our own and will absolutely let you know if there are any signs of discomfort.

We will involve you in each step we take, including a visit to the vet if it is necessary. Each case varies depending on the type of illness or discomfort as well as your input on the situation. We will give our recommendation for the care of your pet based off recommendations from our Vet partners and trained staff then, with your feedback and permission, schedule a vet visit. We will also be sure to follow up with you after your pet's visit, give you any documentation from the vet, and go over directions for their care if it extends past our stay with us.

What If My Dog Needs Medication Throughout the Day?

We understand some dogs have daily medication needs and are happy to help. Our team is able to administer all oral & topical medications. We ask that you bring only the amount of medication needed for the day, give drug descriptions, and medicating instructions at check in.

If your dog is staying with us, we recommend bringing one or two extra doses in the event of travel delays! If instructions are not given for medication during the stay, our team will attempt to make contact with you first and then reach out to your listed emergency contact for instructions. If we cannot make contact, we will follow the instructions listed on the bottle and continue our attempts to reach you.

There is no additional charge for medicating your dog while in our care!
